On a world where metal is nearly non-existent, a war for steel has waged for more than a decade. The front lines are populated by pallid iliri and iliri-human crossbreds. Seen as little more than beasts, their lives are cheap and easily replaced, destroying their culture as the body count rises. Being purebred, Salryc Luxx knows she will die, she just wants to make sure it counts. That’s why she applied for elite forces.

But becoming a Black Blade means that for the first time, humans will have to show her respect. This unit does the impossible, and the country calls them heroes. Military command just hasn’t realized it’s because the Blades have a secret. They’re all iliran crossbreds. Their innate abilities make them the perfect soldiers, even if they’re really nothing more than a pack of predators. It’s the reason the enemy wants to exterminate their species. The intercepted crate of ancient history proves it. So why was it heading to Parliament, not an enemy outpost?

The Black Blades are caught in the middle. The enemy wants to slaughter them. Their own country wants to enslave them. Their leader wants them to act human – but that’s impossible. They’re iliri. If military command finds out, the Black Blades will be disbanded, ripping apart the only family Sal has ever known. And now, the enemy is on their tail.

But there’s a chance she can save not only her pack but her entire species. History says iliri were perfected by men. Maybe it’s time for them to see the monster they created.

This book has it all. Action, intrigue, family, love, lust, suspense, heartache, happiness, and so much more. I loved every minute of this fantastic story. Meet Sal she’s a full lliri and humans hate her kind. They have enslaved them and treat them as the lowest forms on the planet. They only way a lliri can gain any respect and some freedom is to become a member of the military group called the Black Blades. It’s is a very elite group of men within the army and very few pass all trials to be one a member. Sal knows this is her only shot at obtaining her dream. She passes all testes with flying colors using her brains and skills. This group is a tight group like a brotherhood or pack and Sal is the perfect part to complete the group. Many will challenge her and few will succeed. I love when a female character kicks butt and takes names. Sal is one fierce warrior. The world that Auryn Hadley has created is fantastic. It has lots of action, great passion, and will keep you on the edge of your seat till the awesome ending. I can’t wait to see what comes next for the Black Blades.
About the Author:
Auryn Hadley is known for writing deep and interesting characters. Usually strong women with brains, men who aren’t just rich jerks, and people who can be more than one thing at a time. From Science Fiction to Fantasy, with a little bit of Romance thrown in, she believes that a good story is created with interesting characters.

At a young age, she was branded a “geek” and wears the title proudly. Even now, Auryn wavers between being a hard-core gamer, intrigued by Rennaissance faires, and stuck with her nose in a good book. She’s always believed that we’re never too old to enjoy the simple things in life.

She lives in Texas, with a couple of dogs named after Star Wars characters, a midget cat, and a very tolerant husband.
